Ahi After Mahuika

at the Hamilton Art Festival

Ahi After Mahuika is a powerful, multi-sensory theatre experience inspired by the Maori goddess of fire.

Blending myth and reality, it follows a young girl’s journey to restore what she has broken. Guided by Mahuika’s fiery wisdom, she travels through sacred forests, uncovering the secrets of flame within Aotearoa’s ancient trees. Along the way, she learns the importance of balance, responsibility, and the fire that lives within us all.

Designed with accessibility and inclusivity at its heart, Ahi After Mahuika uses innovative sensory techniques, original music, and interactive elements to create an immersive world. Audiences will feel, hear, and see the story unfold - from the warmth of fire to the cool touch of rain - offering a deeply engaging experience for everyone, especially those with disabilities.
